Sacred Geometry & Design

We have been asked to design several nature focused wellbeing retreats using principles of sacred geometry.

Did you know that sacred geometry, which means ‘the measure of the earth’, is the building block of all of life? Yes, there are specific ratios, formulas and proportions that are consistently found in plants, animals and all life form. This geometry is found in weather patterns, the rotation of planets and even our DNA.

Ancient civilizations, architects, philosophers, musicians and artists used sacred geometry in the layout of many new towns, in the construction of temples and cathedrals and the proportions and execution of calligraphy, pottery, sculpture, paintings and murals.

Our experience with sacred Geometry

We have recently competed the design for a new house based on the golden ration. We are also designing a wellbeing retreat based on these principles.

Phillip is knowledgable about how sacred forms used in historic churches or temples (e.g Notre-Dame, Chartes cathedral, Durham cathedral,  Borobudur Temple, Giza Necropolis) can assist to enhance health as they use forms inspired by natural geometries called ‘fractals’ or ‘cymatics’. Both of which mirror the natural world’s rhythms, patterns, and perfection, reminding us of our innate connection to the universe.

“Sacred Geometries’ main goal is to utilize the subtle energy of shapes to create environments that promote well-being by balancing the effect of all environmental stimuli on the body - otherwise known as cymatics. For example, take the frequency of popular music (440hz). Did you know Cymatics experiment with tonoscope produce beautiful geometries using 432hz frequency, rather than the jagged 440hz shapes formed” - Phillip Bristow

Studies show that symmetrical patterns and harmonious proportions positively affect our minds, helping us feel calm, centered, and inspired to nurture both body and soul.

For more information on cymatics refer to BBC documentary here.

Is Scared Geometry the same as Fractal Geometry?

Yes - A fractal is a geometric object or shape which exhibits self-similarity across-scales. Fractals show the same statistical properties at different scales, yet appearing organic and random. Familiar natural phenomena with statistical fractals include, trees, snowflakes, ferns, frost crystals, river networks, clouds and dappled light. Over-time we have adapted to more easily process naturally repeating fractals. This adaptation is known as the fractal fluency. The visual stimuli provided by fractal patterns can vary in complexity, having a range of experiential outcomes for each observer. Subsequently fractals are an important focus of our research at Dandelion Seeds Architects.

There is one ratio that consistently reveals itself in all life form. This ratio is called Phi, and it is commonly represented by several different names: the Golden Ratio, the Golden Section and the Divine Proportion and is signified by the numerical expression: 1: 1.61803. For instance, where the segment of one joint of a finger on the human hand is proportional to the adjacent joint on the same finger.

In plant life, the Phi ratio is displayed in the growth of plants, in the arrangement of leaves on a stem, in the number of seeds in a sunflower, in the spiral alignment of a pineapple, the nautilus shell, and the hexagonal structure of beehives–just to name a few.

Can Sacred Geometry allow for a sense of order, structure and beauty to a given place and enhance our wellbeing?

“If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.” Nikola Tesla.

“Our body is electrical, vibrational and frequency based. Our DNA carries an electrical current – think electrical charge. Our body frequency (MHz) is influenced by our thoughts, words and emotions combined with our food, our air, and our physical environment, and more.” - Phillip Bristow

Scientific studies have proven that specific frequencies activate areas within our brain and nervous system, which influence our behaviours and wellbeing. By creating spaces that work with the natural environment, using natural materials, orientation and geometries that enhance health and wellbeing, we can cultivate environments that resonate with our body and mind. All of which assist to raise the vibration of our homes and our own cellular health.

“ I have also studied as a practitioner in wellbeing and recognise that toxins in homes, environmental pollution, emissions from the production and processing of building materials, electromagnetic fields from radio masts together with the pollution they cause can be harmful and effect us our cellular health.” - Phillip Bristow (ARB RIBA, BA Hons, Dip Arch)

Our design process for healthy living is holistic and we can discuss your preferred options at every stage of the design process
