We are delighted to be commissioned to work on the designs for a new family; home in Cheddar, located within the AONB of the Mendip Hills

The new self build home in Cheddar will provide a low environmental impact using sustainable technology that includes super insulation, and fantastic air tightness levels, and requires 90% less energy to heat than an average home.

The development provides a long term (self build) lifetime home for our client, that responds to the scale of the existing dwellings and setting.

Designing the dwelling provides an opportunity to enhance the semi-improved grasslands of the existing landscape and boundary hedgerows.

Site context:

  • Located within Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

  • Part of Mendip Hills Landscape Character Area.

  • Flood Zone 1.

  • Not within a Conservation Area or SSSI.

  • No nearby Listed Buildings.

3 bed dwelling (1 master, 2 children’s rooms). Study to double as guest room if required.

Additional guest accommodation via annex / garage or static caravan within curtilage.

“Modern barn conversion” aesthetic - building should appear as though it could have been an agricultural barn adapted over time.
